REACH Ethiopia is based in Hawassa the capital of the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples' Region (SNNPR) in Ethiopia aiming to contribute to improved access to health care through implementation of innovative implementation projects.
REACH Ethiopia is a nonprofit organization registered as an Ethiopian Residents Charity, dedicated to community development through innovative projects. Since 2013, it has implemented community-based TB care and integrated health service projects in Sidama, Central Ethiopia, South Ethiopia, Tigray, parts of Oromia and Afar Regions. Currently, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Regional Health Bureaus, REACH Ethiopia is implementing various projects including new project called USAID- Urban TB LON-II SWIF TB Initiative.
The USAID URBAN TB LON II- SWIF TB Initiative is an ambitious initiative aimed at addressing the high burden in the TB triangle of Ethiopia. Focused on 87 woredas in 10 zones across four regions, the Initiative's primary goals include implementing high yield interventions to identify missed TB cases and break chain of transmission, delivering patient-centered care, and fostering innovative solutions to combat TB. This Initiative is pivotal in enhancing TB detection and treatment, with an overarching aim to reduce TB prevalence and mortality in the TB triangle area.
Job Summary:
The Senior Community TB Specialist is a critical role within the USAID USAID- Urban TB LON-II SWIF TB Initiative .This position involves leading community-based TB control efforts, particularly in, : Sidama, Gedeo, Borena, Guji, West Guji, and Gurage. The Specialist will be instrumental in developing and implementing community engagement strategies, strengthening local capacities in TB control, and ensuring that interventions are tailored to the stated zones context. This role demands an individual with extensive experience in TB control and community health.
Job Responsibilities:
Community Engagement and Strategy Development:
- Develop and implement community-based strategies for TB control .
- Engage with community leaders, organizations, and groups to promote TB awareness and prevention.
Program Implementation and Management:
- Oversee the implementation of TB control interventions at the community level.
- Ensure that program activities are aligned with national TB control strategies and project objectives.
Capacity Building:
- Strengthen the capacity of local health workers, community health volunteers, and organizations in TB control and management.
- Facilitate training and workshops to enhance community-based TB care and prevention.
Monitoring and Evaluation:
- Monitor the progress and impact of community-based TB interventions.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of M&E systems for community TB activities.
Collaboration and Coordination:
- Collaborate with government bodies, NGOs, and other stakeholders to optimize TB control efforts.
- Coordinate with other project components to ensure a holistic approach to TB management.
Advocacy and Awareness:
- Advocate for increased focus and resources on TB control.
- Raise awareness about TB prevention and care in communities.
- Other Activities as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Job Requirements:
- Master’s degree in public health, Community Health, or a related field.
- At least 7 years of experience in TB control and community health.
- Strong understanding of the challenges and dynamics of TB control in rural settings.
- Experience in community mobilization, capacity building, and program management.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in English and local languages.
