Brief Organizational Introduction and Project Overview:
REACH Ethiopia is a nonprofit organization registered as an Ethiopian Residents Charity, dedicated to community development through innovative projects. Since 2013, it has implemented community-based TB care and integrated health service projects in Sidama, Central Ethiopia, South Ethiopia, Tigray, parts of Oromia and Afar Regions. Currently, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Regional Health Bureaus, REACH Ethiopia is implementing various projects including new project called USAID- Urban TB LON-II SWIF TB Initiative.
The USAID URBAN TB LON II- SWIF TB Initiative is an ambitious initiative aimed at addressing the high burden in the TB triangle of Ethiopia. Focused on 87 woredas in 10 zones across four regions, the Initiative's primary goals include implementing high yield interventions to identify missed TB cases and break chain of transmission, delivering patient-centered care, and fostering innovative solutions to combat TB. This Initiative is pivotal in enhancing TB detection and treatment, with an overarching aim to reduce TB prevalence and mortality in the TB triangle area.
Job Summary:
As the Technical Director for the USAID URBAN TB LON II- SWIF TB Initaiative, the incumbent will play a pivotal role in supporting and guiding the strategic direction and implementation of the Initiative in the designated zones of Sidama, Gedio, Borena, Guji, West Guji, and Gurage. This position requires a committed and dynamic individual with expertise in public health program management, particularly in tuberculosis control and expefience in working with USAID Projects. The Technical Director will work closely with the Chief of Party to ensure the effective execution of project activities and achievement of project goals.
Job Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive technical strategy aligned with the Initiative's goals and objectives.
- Provide technical guidance and support to project staff and partners on TB diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and care.
- Ensure adherence to national and international TB guidelines and standards.
- Collaborate with technical experts and other institutions to stay updated on the latest advancements in TB control.
Project Coordination and Management:
- Oversee the planning, implementation, and monitoring of project activities in the target zones.
- Ensure effective coordination and collaboration with government health authorities, NGOs, and other stakeholders.
- Monitor project progress, identify challenges, and implement corrective measures as needed.
- Monitor and oversee the implementation of activities in the project implementation areas
- Coordinate project management unit in the implementation area
- Prepare and present regular progress reports and updates for donors and other relevant stakeholders.
Capacity Building:
- Strengthen the capacity of health care providers and community members in TB diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.
- Develop and implement training programs and workshops to improve knowledge and skills.
- Support the establishment of sustainable TB care systems in the target zones.
Monitoring and Evaluation:
- Establish a robust monitoring and evaluation framework to track project outcomes.
- Collect and analyze data to assess project effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
- Prepare periodic reports and evaluations to inform decision-making and resource allocation.
Advocacy and Partnership:
- Advocate for increased investment in TB control and prevention at local, national, and international levels.
- Build and maintain strong partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, and other relevant organizations.
- Represent the project at conferences, meetings, and workshops.
Compliance and Quality Assurance:
- Ensure compliance with USAID regulations and standards.
- Oversee the quality assurance of project deliverables.
- Other Tasks as assigned by immediate Supervisor
Job Requirement:
Qualifications:
- Medical Doctrate with Advanced degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, International Development, or related field.
- At least 8 years of professional experience in public health, particularly in TB control or similar programs.
- At least 5 years experience in the design and implementation of USAID-funded projects.
- Strong technical expertise in TB program management, including patient care, case finding, and community engagement.
- Excellent leadership, strategic thinking, and organizational skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, capable of maintaining strong relationships.
- Proficient in English; fluency in local languages is a plus.
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently to project sites within Ethiopia.
