REACH Ethiopia is based in Hawassa the capital of the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples' Region (SNNPR) in Ethiopia aiming to contribute to improved access to health care through implementation of innovative implementation projects.
REACH Ethiopia is a nonprofit organization registered as an Ethiopian Residents Charity, dedicated to community development through innovative projects. Since 2013, it has implemented community-based TB care and integrated health service projects in Sidama, Central Ethiopia, South Ethiopia, Tigray, parts of Oromia and Afar Regions. Currently, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Regional Health Bureaus, REACH Ethiopia is implementing various projects including new project called USAID- Urban TB LON-II SWIF TB Initiative.
The USAID URBAN TB LON II- SWIF TB Initiative is an ambitious initiative aimed at addressing the high burden in the TB triangle of Ethiopia. Focused on 87 woredas in 10 zones across four regions, the Initiative's primary goals include implementing high yield interventions to identify missed TB cases and break chain of transmission, delivering patient-centered care, and fostering innovative solutions to combat TB. This Initiative is pivotal in enhancing TB detection and treatment, with an overarching aim to reduce TB prevalence and mortality in the TB triangle area.
Job Summary:
Under the leadership of the Regional Director the Senior TB Specialist will lead, execute and oversee the successful implementation and delivery of all program activities of the mentioned project to achieve the intended goals of the project in their respective implementation area . He/she actively supports coordination for planning, implementation and delivery of defined and agreed upon and service delivery/practice of standards and provides oversight to all the activities under the projects that will be implemented in these settings.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Technical and project Management and Advising Role:
- Coordinates the planning, implementation, and continuous monitoring of all technical areas and technical activities of the project
- Review the plan regularly to ensure indicators and objectives are being achieved in a timely manner
- Ensures the project compliance to the technical requirements of the donor organization as well as MOH policies and addresses any issues with the Technical Director/Executive Director.
KAP Programming:
- Leads the design and implementation of high impact TB interventions tailored to TB KAP to find all missing people with TB in urban settings
- Analyzes key TB service entry barriers to urban settings for tailored interventions
- Works on TB stigma reduction and community empowerment for health
Health Systems Strengthening:
- Lead the designing modalities of urban TB programing with specific roles and responsibilities of all actors of (UHEPs, Family Health team, Local organizations including TB survivors’ associations, iddirs, etc)
- Take an active part in the project issue/risk management process, by contributing to the identification and prioritization of existing and potential issues and risks, and helping to develop local level strategies and controls to mitigate these
Coordination and Partnership:
- Represent the project at national/regional forums and keep project management updated on stakeholders’ expectations and status of project achievement against expectations
- Identifies and respond to crosscutting issues in collaboration with national and regional partners
- Provides technical assistance to Heath Bureaus and the national TB control program
Innovations and Knowledge management:
- Actively share knowledge and skills with the national, regional and global TB community by contributing to development of abstracts, technical briefs and peer reviewed publications.
- Leads the synthesis, production and dissemination of project specific reports, success stories, and best practices
- Contributes to knowledge management by identifying key results for performance improvement and communication strategies
- Identifies/supports the regional TB program in the introduction and scale-up of innovative interventions
Communications and personal skills:
- Identifies technical capacity issues within the project and provide/arrange capacity building interventions to address the identified gaps.
- Ensures the quality of work of the technical unit of the project;
- Coordinates/contributes to documentation and sharing of project results at national and international level
- Inspires team members to implement innovate interventions
- Undertake other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor
Job Requirements:
- Master’s degree in public health, Community Health, or a related field.
- At least 7 years of experience in TB control and community health.
- Proven experience in activity coordination, mentorship, capacity building and training delivery.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
- Fluency in Amharic and English, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in DHIS2 and other relevant data management systems.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to working in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with Similar USAID projects is a plus
