USAID Eliminate TB/MSH

Project launching workshop was conducted in March 11/2021 at Hawassa town in the presence of all relevant stakeholders. Invited participants from Sidama Regional health bureau, SNNP Regional health bureau, Hadiya Zone health department, All 20 project implementing woredas health office, MSH head office and regional office staffs, REACH Ethiopia head office, regional and woreda staff attended the meeting.
To strengthen community TB care REACH Ethiopia won awarded by USAID fund through MSH for USAID Eliminate TB project. The project will be implemented in Sidama regional state and SNNP regional state in Hadiya zone targeted to a total of 20 districts of high TB burden, low contact tracing and weak health system to reach the unreached households in the rural community.
The aim of the project focuses on improving community contribution to TB care through enhanced efforts to improve case identification, cure rate, strengthen community based TB activities, ensuring contact tracing and following up presumptive and post treatment TB cases, and improve monitoring of community contribution.

The objective of the launching and awareness creation meeting

  • To formally announce the commencement of the project implementation.
  • To create common understanding and awareness of the project to ensure the involvement of government at all levels and share responsibilities among stake holders.
  • To discuss on the cooperation expected throughout project implementation.

At the start of meeting Mr. Meseret Aseffa, REACH Ethiopia Executive Director opened the meeting through a welcome notice to all the participants. Also, he extended thanks to the project donors and presented brief overview about project. Then Mr. Zerihun Bariso, Sidama Regional State Health Bureau, Disease prevention and health promotion Directorate Director was invited for opening remark. He was presented opening remark and appreciated project and donors for working on TB. Finally he said that “we all together will achieve project and we are really happy by a project which applied at a root level for a remote community”. The next to that Different presenters were took a stage according to project launching agenda and presented on project activities.

REACH Ethiopia grew out of a TB project that started in 2010. This project introduced an innovative community package that engaged health extension workers (HEWs) to increase TB case detection and treatment adherence.
