Beyond the logistics, strengthening laboratory services represents a critical front in the fight to save lives. We recently conducted a performance review meeting to evaluate the implementation of Shaggar City alternative specimen transport system, identifying key operational challenges & strategic ways forward. By engaging non-health professionals to transport TB specimens to molecular diagnostic (mWRD) hubs twice weekly, we are bridging the gap for facilities in underserved areas.
This system ensures that every patient receives a rapid & accurate diagnosis, regardless of their local facility’s equipment. Through the Urban TB LON II Project, supported by the US Government, we are refining this network to reduce turnaround times & ensure life-saving treatment begins as early as possible. This meeting remains vital for overcoming challenges & documenting best practices to ensure the system runs seamlessly, bringing true health equity to the community.
