Training was given to Volunteers on Home Based Drug Resistance TB Treatment Adherence Support & Care Training in Addis Ababa

A two day home based Drug Resistance Tuberculosis (DR-TB) treatment adherence and care training for community volunteers &DR-TB survivors was organized by REACH Ethiopia / Stop TB Partnership –TB REACH Wave-9 project in collaboration with Addis Ababa City administration Health Bureau. The training was conducted from17-18January 2022 at ALERT training centre, Addis Ababa Ethiopia.The training was opened officially by REACH Ethiopia Executive Director, Mr. Meseret Aseffa who introduced the participant about REACH Ethiopia and Wave-9 Project. The ultimate goal of the training was to establish peer to peer supported home based care (including treatment, health education and psycho social counseling) by DR-TB survivor volunteers. Accordingly the training modules focused on knowledge and skill transferring to capacitate the community volunteer to give the home based treatment support.

The REACH Ethiopia Stop TB Partnership’s TB REACH wave 9 projects implemented in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and is designed to implement Differentiated Service Delivery approach to improve DR-TB Treatment outcome and quality of life of DR-TB patients.

REACH Ethiopia grew out of a TB project that started in 2010. This project introduced an innovative community package that engaged health extension workers (HEWs) to increase TB case detection and treatment adherence.
