A dynamic week for Ethiopia’s National TB Program saw REACH Ethiopia at the forefront, contributing significantly to three pivotal events advancing the fight against tuberculosis.
The week commenced with a crucial six-month program evaluation, assessing TB, leprosy, and lung disease initiatives. REACH Ethiopia played a key role, with our Technical Director providing expert insights and our Executive Director leading regional performance evaluations. These sessions identified crucial areas for improvement and strategic refinement.

Following the evaluation, the National TB Research Conference (TRAC) highlighted REACH Ethiopia’s research leadership. Out of 100+ submissions, two REACH Ethiopia studies were selected for presentation:
- Community Perceptions in Conflict Zones: Our M&E Director, Zemedu Mehamed, presented findings on TB service availability and accessibility in Tigray’s conflict-affected areas, revealing critical gaps and barriers. This research, supported by the Stop-TB Partnership, provides vital data for targeted interventions.
- AI-Enhanced Case Finding: Our Executive Director, Dr. Tamiru Assefa, presented research on hotspot mapping and AI-assisted digital X-ray screening in Sidama Region, demonstrating significant improvements in TB case notification. This USAID-supported study showcases innovative strategies for achieving end-TB goals.

Adding to our achievements, Dr. Getechew Wondimagegne, our Technical Director, received the TRAC Lifetime Dedication in TB Service Award, recognizing his exceptional contributions to TB control.

The week culminated in the World TB Day commemoration in Arba Minch, where REACH Ethiopia actively participated in raising awareness and advocating for strengthened TB efforts nationwide.

These events underscore REACH Ethiopia’s unwavering commitment to a TB-free Ethiopia. We continue to lead by example, driving progress in TB prevention, detection, and treatment.
