Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Over 200 leaders from more than 97 Primary Health Care Units (PHCUs) in Addis Ababa recently completed a focused, two-day program management orientation training aimed at strengthening local efforts against TB and Drug-Resistant TB (DR-TB).

🤝 A Collaborative Effort
The training, held on October 22-23, was a joint initiative of the URBAN TB LON II Project and the Addis Ababa City Administration Health Bureau. The orientation was split into two sessions per day to effectively cover critical content.

🎯 Key Focus Areas
Participants engaged in sessions focused on immediate improvements in PHCU operations:
- Case Finding & Diagnosis: Strategies to enhance the detection of new TB and DR-TB cases in the community.
- Treatment Management: Best practices for ensuring effective and complete treatment adherence.
- Monitoring & Evaluation: Learning and implementing new tools for tracking progress and ensuring data-driven decision-making.

A strong emphasis was also placed on the essential role of Health Extension Professionals (HEPs) and volunteers in expanding community-based care and outreach.

🚀 Building Stronger Local Efforts
This training is all about building stronger, more coordinated efforts at the local level,” said a project representative. By improving program management capacity and promoting the use of data, the goal is clear: save lives and curb the spread of TB within the city.
