Improving the overall quality of TB services is not just an aspiration but a vital necessity for achieving the national #EndTB strategy in Ethiopia. The Urban TB LON II Project is actively committed to driving this quality improvement agenda forward, ensuring more efficient detection and people-centered care.

Driving Change: The Continuous Quality Improvement (QI) Workshop
In a significant step toward achieving our project goals, the Urban TB LON II Project recently hosted a successful three-day Continuous Quality Improvement (QI) Workshop, successfully equipped healthcare professionals from seven selected public health facilities in Shaggar City with practical tools, methodologies, and actionable insights required to:
- Strengthen TB detection processes.
- Improve efficiency and timeliness of patient enrollment into treatment programs.
- Optimize the overall patient journey within their respective facilities.

Commitment to the National Strategy
The Urban TB LON II Project is a five-year initiative funded by the U.S. Government. Our core mission aligns directly with the national commitment to combat TB in Ethiopia.
Our work focuses on four primary objectives:
- Case Finding: Identifying previously undetected TB cases within communities.
- Patient Care: Improving the quality and responsiveness of care for all TB patients.
- Reducing Prevalence: Working to lower the overall rate of TB infection.
- Reducing Mortality: Ultimately aiming to decrease TB-related deaths across our target areas.
The project operates across key urban areas—Addis Ababa, Shaggar, Harar, and Dire Dawa—and targets national TB hot spot zones in 8 specific areas across four regions: Oromia, Sidama, Central, and South Ethiopia.

Optimizing the Patient Journey
Ultimately, this comprehensive Continuous Quality Improvement approach is focused on optimizing every step of the patient journey, from initial screening and diagnosis to treatment initiation and adherence. By rigorously applying QI principles, the Urban TB LON II Project works to ensure the quality of services at each facility, leading to measurable improvements and better outcomes for patients, such as:
- Higher cure rates.
- Reduced transmission of the disease.
- A healthcare system better equipped to save lives.
The Urban TB LON II Project is dedicated to supporting healthcare providers in their efforts to deliver high-quality, patient-centered TB care across Ethiopia: Finally to save lives.
