Empowering Local Heroes

Community-level TB screening is a vital strategy to find every single missed TB case and accelerate progress toward the end of TB. Our mission focuses on robust community engagement, as involving every community member is key to changing attitudes and reducing stigma around the disease. We recently took a major step forward by successfully conducting a TB screening orientation training for 75 community block leaders across the Teklehaimanot catchment of Lideta Sub-city and the Philipos (Woreda 11) catchment of Addis Ketema Sub-city.

The objective of this training was to enhance community TB screening efforts by enabling these leaders to work directly with the Health Facility (PHCU) team. These trained leaders will be crucial in awareness creation, active case finding, referral and linkage to care, and follow-up support within their respective communities. This critical activity is proudly supported by the US Government as part of the Urban TB LON II project.

REACH Ethiopia grew out of a TB project that started in 2010. This project introduced an innovative community package that engaged health extension workers (HEWs) to increase TB case detection and treatment adherence.
