Saving Lives, Building Health: Strengthening TB Care in Addis Ababa

On September 24-25, 2025, the Urban TB LON II Project, in collaboration with the Addis Ababa City Administration Health Bureau, hosted a critical one-day workshop in Bishoftu. The event brought together health experts and sub-city TB/HIV officers to focus on a shared goal: enhancing the management of tuberculosis programs across the city.

This strategic gathering at the Yatu International Hotel focused in on two key areas: improving the Public-Private Mix (PPM) and reinforcing the vital role of Family Health Teams (FHT).

Key Focus Areas

  • Enhancing the Public-Private Mix: The workshop aimed to strengthen the collaboration between public health services and private medical providers to ensure more effective TB care and a wider reach.
  • Empowering Family Health Teams: Participants focused on reinforcing the activities of FHTs, recognizing their crucial role in both preventing TB and providing essential care within communities.
  • Improving Case Detection: A primary objective was to boost efforts to find missed TB cases, directly contributing to the nations’s mission of creating TB-free urban communities and saving lives.

The event was a significant step toward achieving the broader mission of #EndTB and is supported by the #USGovernment in the effort to #Savelives.

REACH Ethiopia grew out of a TB project that started in 2010. This project introduced an innovative community package that engaged health extension workers (HEWs) to increase TB case detection and treatment adherence.
