REACHOUT

The REACHOUT project aims to maximize the effectiveness, and efficiency of close-to-community (CTC) services in six countries: Mozambique, Indonesia, Kenya, Malawi, Bangladesh, and Ethiopia. The project is supported by the European Union. The website for REACHOUT is: www.reachoutconsortium.org and links may be found on this to our research findings and other news on our REACHOUT work in Ethiopia.
We have defined a CTC provider as a health worker who carries out promotional, preventive and/or curative health services and who is the first point of contact in the community. In Ethiopia the CTC providers are HEWs. The project has prioritized maternal and child health in Ethiopia as it is a persistent development problem.
REACHOUT Ethiopia is being implemented in Shebedino district of Sidama Zone, South Ethiopia. The research aims to improve health seeking behavior of mothers and the performance of HEWs in maternal health service by conducting context analysis study to identify barriers to maternal health and introducing quality improvement interventions to enhance maternal health service utilization.
