Celebrating Success in the Fight Against TB
The Sidama Regional State Health Bureau, in collaboration with REACH Ethiopia / Urban TB LON II Project, recently convened stakeholders in Hawassa for the 2018 EFY TBLLD Annual Review Meeting. The gathering served as a vital platform to evaluate collective progress, celebrate shared victories, and strategize for the future.
Through strong partnerships and community-driven efforts, the region achieved remarkable milestones over the past year:
- 12,180 TB cases detected, reaching 110% of the annual target and marking a 12% increase from last year.
- Community TB contribution expanded significantly, rising from 39% to 50%.
- GeneXpert utilization increased from 36% to 55%.
- High treatment standards maintained, achieving 94% DST and 102% TPT coverage (with an impressive 91% completion rate).

We are deeply honored that REACH Ethiopia was recognized with a top performer award certificate by the Sidama Regional Health Bureau presented by Dr. Selamawit Mengesha-Head of the Bureau on August 29, 2026for our ongoing partnership and dedication to impactful community health initiatives.
Looking Ahead to 2019 EFY
As we step into the 2019 Ethiopian Fiscal Year (EFY), we remain steadfastly committed to addressing remaining public health challenges. Moving forward, our focus will center on:
- Enhancing DR-TB case detection capabilities.
- Improving data quality and reporting mechanisms.
- Fostered shared responsibility and continued innovation across all health tiers.
