Shaping the Future of TB Control: High-Level Stakeholder Workshop to Revise National Strategy

Last week, the National TB, Leprosy, and Other Lung Diseases (TLLD) Program convened a four-day high-level stakeholder consultative workshop. This intensive session was dedicated to the critical revision of the National Strategic Plan (NSP).

A Responsive Framework for a Changing Landscape

The revision of the NSP is a vital step toward creating a more responsive and enabling policy framework. To be effective, Ethiopia’s national strategy must align with:

  • Current Global & National Trends: Addressing the latest epidemiological data and treatment breakthroughs.
  • The Evolving Local Context: Adapting to Ethiopia’s unique and shifting political, social, and economic landscape.

Collaborative Expertise

The workshop brought together a diverse group of experts from the Ministry of Health, Regional Health Bureaus, affiliated government agencies, and international development partners. These stakeholders collaborated to identify:

  1. Priority Areas: Determining where resources will have the most significant impact.
  2. Emerging Challenges: Tackling new barriers to healthcare access and treatment adherence.
  3. Key Outcomes: Defining the measurable goals the new strategy must achieve to move the needle on public health.

REACH Ethiopia’s Contribution

As a proud and long-standing partner of the National TB Program, the REACH Ethiopia team was honored to play an active role in these consultations.

We utilized this platform to share our on-the-ground field experiences and showcase innovative interventions. By integrating these proven strategies into the national plan, we aim to significantly accelerate progress toward the global End TB targets.

“Together, we are shaping a stronger, more inclusive, and impact-driven national response to ensure a healthier future for all.”

REACH Ethiopia grew out of a TB project that started in 2010. This project introduced an innovative community package that engaged health extension workers (HEWs) to increase TB case detection and treatment adherence.
