In a major milestone for community health in Ethiopia, project leaders and key stakeholders recently convened for a productive project performance review and endline evaluation consultative meeting. The session brought together our team and representatives from Expertise France, including Camille GUTTON (Project Manager) and Solène VERNET (MEAL Project Manager), to review key achievements, address field challenges, and outline post-2026 sustainability strategies.

Implemented under the “Reaching Vulnerable and Key Affected Populations to Improve Access to TB Care in Pastoralist Areas of Ethiopia” project, this three-year initiative (June 2023 – December 2026) is funded by L’Initiative – Expertise France 🇫🇷 across Zone 3 of the Afar Region.

Key Project Achievements
Throughout its implementation, the initiative has delivered measurable impact across pastoralist communities:
- Over 1,200 Lives Saved: Identified and successfully treated previously hidden Tuberculosis (TB) cases.
- Health Facility Enhancement: Equipped local healthcare facilities with advanced diagnostic technology to improve early detection and treatment quality.
- Community Empowerment: Significantly boosted local health literacy and awareness surrounding TB prevention and care.

Looking to the Future: Sustainability & Integration
Beyond immediate clinical outcomes, the project focuses on long-term health equity. Our collective goal is to establish a truly people-centered health system by strengthening local healthcare worker capacity and ensuring high-quality TB services are integrated into routine primary healthcare.

By keeping pastoralist communities at the center of our care delivery model, we continue to drive national health objectives forward in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Health Ethiopia.
Together with our partners, we remain steadfast in our commitment: we will not stop until every community is TB-free.
