The Central Ethiopia Regional Public Health Institute Laboratory, in collaboration with Urban TB LON II project, recently concluded an intensive five-day training program in Butajira. The session focused on the GeneXpert MTB RIF/Ultra Assay and LabXpert connectivity, marking a significant milestone in the region’s diagnostic capabilities.
Why This Matters
The RIF/Ultra assay is a game-changer in the fight against TB. Unlike traditional methods, it enables the rapid, simultaneous detection of both TB and Rifampicin resistance. This allows healthcare providers to:
- Accelerate diagnosis from days to hours.
- Initiate precise treatment plans immediately.
- Reduce transmission within the community through faster intervention.
Bridging Theory and Practice
To ensure the training translated into real-world proficiency, participants engaged in hands-on practical sessions at Butajira General Hospital and Butajira Health Center. These sessions equipped laboratory professionals with the technical expertise required to operate advanced equipment and manage the LabXpert digital interface.
The Result: A more robust, data-driven TB program that minimizes human error and maximizes diagnostic accuracy.
Strengthening the Network
By integrating cutting-edge molecular tools with seamless digital connectivity, this initiative does more than just upgrade equipment—it strengthens the entire regional diagnostic network. This commitment to innovation ensures more reliable health outcomes and a healthier future for the community.
